Pregnancy as a symbol

Pregnancy is the beginning of a new life. It is a symbol of hope and it promises a future. Rose of Sharon was the only pregnant character in the Grapes of Wrath. She was also the one who was left by her husband. Having a baby creates a family too, but Rose of Sharon was left by herself. I see this to foreshadow the events that would follow in the book. Everything seemed like it was going okay between Connie and Rose of Sharon and he left out of nowhere. It was expected and I think this symbolizes the unexpected bad events that happened to the Joad family. The baby was really all Rose of Sharon had left. It was part of her lost lover and even that wasn't born okay. She had the baby, and it was stillborn. All hope was lost for a new life, and I believe this to tell readers that the Joad family would never be truly stable or content money or job wise.
