Conflict in Catcher in the Rye

There are a few kinds of conflicts in this book. The first one is Holden versus himself. He is his own worst enemy. He convinces himself that everyone is fake, and he is alone. He creates his own insanity. Another conflict in this book is the fact that Holden does not have any motivation and is constantly getting kicked out of schools. He left school early and is traveling New York City. He is so worried about what his mother will do when she finds out about him again. This is a big conflict because he will not be successful in life, without at least completing high school. The next conflict is death. Allie was Holdens younger brother. Holden cannot get over it or even accept the fact that he is gone. The last conflict I noticed was Holden versus everyone else. He thinks the worst of everybody and does not have friends or anyone his own age to talk to. The only person he seems to see only good in that is still alive is Phoebe. Overall this book didn't have much conflict as it did themes. I think this book was meant more to teach a lesson, which themes do a great job of doing.
