Final thoughts on Catcher in the Rye

I read this novel for leisure last summer. I enjoyed it a lot, and I thought it was a great novel. When we were assigned to read it again I was really excited because I considered it one of my favorite books. After reading it again I have a whole new point of view on the book. The book really annoyed me this time through. I could not stand Holden's negativity, and it was really annoying how socially awkward he was. He seems like a selfish person, and I hate how he was the main character. I think my view on this book changed because I had to take close notes and read in between the lines for my essay. When I read it before I never noticed how much I dislike Holden. I like how honest he was and how readers got a point of view from a troubled teen. The ending I wish was more closed instead of leaving readers to guess what happened. Overall this book was an easy read, and I liked the messages this book put through. I also like Salingers writing style, and how he elaborately describes each scene because it made me feel like it helped me understand what was going on more because I could imagine what everything looked like.
