Chapter 1
This chapter tells about a huge dust storm. It tells how the corn use to be really green. Horses hooves, wheels milled and team moves caused the dirt to loosen into dust. Wind lifted the dust and blew it onto all of the crops. Wind grew stronger and blew dust everywhere. People stayed inside with rags stuffed into crack to keep the dust out. A few days later they emerged from their homes and the men saw their crops were ruined.
Chapter 2
In this chapter we meet a Joad. He asks for a ride with a truck driver who accepts. Along the way we learn he lives on his fathers farm. At the end we learn that he just got out of prison for homicide.
Chapter 3
In this chapter a turtle is discussed. The turtle is on a journey to oats and has to cross a road. The turtle gets hit but makes it across. When he gets across it drops seeds and covers them with dirt.
Chapter 4
On Joad's way home he runs into his old preacher. They talk and readers learn the preacher isn't a preacher anymore because he is filled with bad ideas. Joad and the old preacher walk towards Joad's old house. The discuss religion and other things that have been going on. Upon their arrival Joad sees a cluster of buildings which was not where he lived.
Chapter 5
Landowners from the bank come in and tell the tenants they need to leave the land on the banks orders. A man tries to resist the men from the bank got in a tractor and began planting. The tractor also crumbled the man's house. The landowner says he makes $3 a day and the tenant says for the $3 he makes, his family and 15 others starve.
