Grapes of Wrach chapters 15-16

Chapter 15

This chapter is shot there employees of a diner that sells food and convenience stuff. People hardy stop by and some people steal from them. A family stops in and is really tight in money and the women gives them bread for cheap even though they risk running out before the bread truck comes again. Then the two children have a penny and are eying the candy. The candy is really a nickel a piece but she lies and tells them it is two for a penny. This chapter shows how hard businesses had it.

Chapter 16

This chapter was about the family on the road. The truck needed a repair and they had to stop. The family split up and casy and Tom stayed behind. Al came back after he dropped the family off at a camp that was half a dollar a night. Al andtom are on their way to a car lot and al discloses that he has six dollars the family doesn't know about. When they get to the lot they encounter a one eyed man that feels really sorry for himself. They find the part they need and get back to the truck and fix it. They drive on to meet the family and they camp owner won't let them in unless they pay. Hey don't want to pay so they go on. They meet a man who says he is coming back from California and he tells about how bad the wages are. He says the employer tells everyone about his work and people are desperate so they accept low wages because they needs food and a place to live. This angers pa and he almost tells Ma but Tom stops him. A symbol in this chapter is fences. Tom says he climbs fences when he needs to. I think this represents hard times in life or difficult decisions or decisions needed for survival.
